Wild Portraits – An Intimate Photographic Portrayal of Wild Life

Eye Candy Gallery in Southern Pines presents “Wild Portraits,” an evocative photography exhibit that invites you into the untamed beauty and raw spirit of the natural world. In this collection from Warren Henry Lewis, each image is a vivid exploration of wildlife, capturing fleeting moments of grace, intensity, and character that reveal the soul of its subjects. Through his camera lens, these portraits transcend typical wildlife imagery, offering a fresh perspective on the intricate and often unseen personalities of animals.
As you navigate through the exhibit, you will encounter a diverse array of wildlife. The exhibit aims to bridge the gap between human and animal experiences, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the natural world and its inhabitants. “Wild Portraits” is more than a visual journey; it is a call to empathy and awareness. It is Lewis’s hope that his images will inspire reflection and action, fostering a greater connection between humanity and the wild work that surrounds us.
A self-described “neurotic New Yorker,” Lewis has been traveling the world for the last 35 years. He’s done marathons and triathlons, Renaissance Festivals, sky diving and SCUBA diving. He has climbed active volcanoes, been lowered into a cenote and stood on the equator. He’s been nearly stranded at the North Pole, and stared down a European Brown Bear. He has buried himself in snow, dodged an elephant’s trunk and been challenged by Belarusian soldiers to get the image he visualized. Lewis is known for his spectacular landscape and intimate wildlife photography in remote locations including Iceland and Svalbard, Norway and South Africa, as well as in his hometown.
An opening reception will take place on September 27, 2024 from 6pm-8pm. Lewis will be on hand to discuss his images and offer insight into the fascinating lives of his portrait subjects. The exhibit will run from September 27th-November 2nd.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. For more information, please call the gallery at (910) 246-2266.
