Pierce painted this after a lunch stop in Northern Ireland, where a young server, off shift, sat down alone with a look somewhere between tired and wistful. Behind her, a couple leans into each other, easy and unaware. Frank wasn’t trying to tell her story — just noticed the moment, and the quiet contrast in it.
