Diane Willkens
Diane Willkens began working with fused glass 15 years ago in Maryland, where she studied with Nancy Weisser of Weisser Glass, a highly respected fused glass artist and teacher. That early training sparked a lasting fascination with the medium and its possibilities.
Now working from her Pinehurst studio with four kilns, Diane continues to explore new techniques, experiment with texture, and learn from favorite glass artists whose work inspires her own.
The fused glass pieces shown at Eye Candy include tapestry-style and crackle-style works. Her tapestry pieces begin with very fine strands of glass that are fused, cut, rearranged, and fired again to create a woven visual effect. The finished pieces are then refined through additional kiln work and surface finishing.

Her crackle glass pieces are created with powdered glass, which is shaped and manipulated to form natural-looking fissures. Through firing, grinding, sandblasting, and shaping, each piece develops its distinctive texture, softened edges, and sculptural form.
