Barbara Burlingame has been creating colorful, whimsical mixed media art since the early 1980s. Her work has been exhibited and sold in more than 37 galleries across the United States and internationally.

Barbara received both her B.A. and M.A. degrees from Purdue University. Her creative practice focuses on contemporary painting and playful sculpture, often combining paint, handmade papers, and found objects to create richly layered works that invite a closer look.

Her art has been widely collected by corporations and hospitals, with Human Hospitals alone acquiring more than 200 pieces. One of Barbara’s favorite “art sightings” happened during a family reunion at Disney World, when her own children recognized one of her paintings hanging in the lobby.

Barbara’s work is known for its lively color, textured surfaces, and bold geometric shapes. Inspired by the natural world, her paintings and sculptures often reflect playful interpretations of landscapes, animals, and people. There is a childlike honesty to her work, but also a thoughtful sense of composition and movement.

At its heart, Barbara’s art is meant to delight. Her pieces encourage viewers to move beyond a simple visual impression and engage with the playful, imaginative world she creates.
