Jane Hixson

Jane Hixson, an award winning member of the Pastel Society of America and a Signature Member of the Degas Pastel Society, graduated from the Syracuse University School of Art with a BFA in advertising design and a minor in photography from The Newhouse School. She went to work for Bantam Books in New York and designed promotional materials for major book releases such as Mastering the Ark of French Cooking by legendary chef Julia Child. Jane went back to school for an MBA, then opened her own Minneapolis agency. After a 40 year long career in marketing, she put it all aside to paint simply desiring to become the artist she long dreamed of becoming.

Since her return to painting, Jane has been the recipient of numerous awards and her work is widely collected. Her pastels bring a unique look and feel to the medium, a reflection of her earlier works in oil, watercolor, and acrylic. Her works have a lovely depth and dimension achieved through extensive layering of color and a mix of blended and non-blended areas on textured tonal paper. An avid traveler, Jane's work reflects a palette discovered in different landscapes and seascapes across the United States, Europe, and the British Isles.
